A 2D shape is a flat figure. It has length and width, but no thickness.

Square: 4 equal sides.
Rectangle: 4 sides, opposite sides are equal.

The total distance around the outside of a shape. Imagine walking along a fence!

Formula: Add all the outside sides together.

The total space inside a shape. Imagine covering a floor with square tiles!

Formula: Multiply the Width by the Height.

📝 Practice Examples

Answer: Area = Width × Height. 6 × 4 = 24 square meters.

Example 2 (Perimeter): Sarah has a square picture frame. One side is 5 inches long. How much wood is needed to build the border?
Answer: A square has 4 equal sides. Perimeter = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20 inches.
